SIX BASIC MAYAVADI PHILOSOPHIES DEFEATED

Krishna book 2.32 Prayers by the Personified Vedas is a very long chapter...at least four times longer any of the other chapters. It a wonderful chapter very rich in the philosophical understanding of Krishna consciousness. The section this morning deals with defeating the Mayavadi conclusions and how and why devotional service is the only real truth. It is extraordinary.

First it is established that anything of the material world is temporary and then it is proved that any philosophy that is based on simply observing this temporary world cannot reach the Absolute Truth. At best it is possible to access the formless inactive effulgence of the bodily rays of the Lord. Great, great philosophers and meditators for all their pains and labor reach the same destination as the demons who are directly hateful of the Personality of Godhead.

The point is made that by our mind and mental processes we cannot even access knowledge of our forefathers. Those who existed before us and from whom we descended. So how will it be possible by the mind and mental processes to access Krishna who existed before the created?

Six basic Mayavadi philosophies are described:
"There are generally six kinds of mental speculators, and they are called sad-darsana. All these philosophers are impersonalists and are known as Mayavadis. Every one of them has tried to establish his own opinion, although they all have later compromised and stated that all opinions lead to the same goal and that every opinion is therefore valid. According to the prayers of the personified Vedas, however, none of them are valid because their process of knowledge is created within the temporary material world." KB 2.32

Srila Prabhupada explains all six of them and how they fall short. The first of the six to be discussed is Mimamsaka and it is easily defeated. We can see how it would give support to a varnashrama society without God. Mimamsaka headed by Jaimini advocates duties and pious activities only. That this is the way to the truth.

Quoting form the Bhagavad gita alone Srila Prabhupada defeats each of the six mayavada philosophies. Srila Prabhupada smashes the Mimamsakas with... kṣīṇe puṇye martya-lokaṁ viśanti BG 9.21.
"But this is contradicted in the Ninth Chapter of Bhagavad-gita, where Lord Krishna says that by pious activities one may be elevated to the heavenly planets, but as soon as one's accumulation of pious activities is used up, one has to leave the enjoyment of a higher standard of material prosperity in the heavenly planets and immediately come down again to these lower planets, where the duration of life is very short and where the standard of material happiness is of a lower grade." Mimamsaka is ground to fine powder, dust under the feet of the Master. It's a master blaster... Mimamsaka is defeated. But Srila Prabhupada goes on to extol devotional service explaining that devotees are by nature already engaged in pious activities...no extra effort needed. But even if they are not... if they are engaged in devotional service, especially hearing from Vaishnava scriptures, they are well on their way to the perfection of life.

"Pious activities may purify one of the contamination caused by ignorance and passion, but this is automatically attained by a devotee who is constantly engaged in hearing the transcendental message of Godhead in the form of the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam or similar scriptures. From the Bhagavad gita we understand that even a person who is not up to the.standard of pious activities but who is absolutely engaged in devotional service is to be considered well situated on the path of spiritual perfection." Srila Prabhupada always at every opportunity takes things over the top. He is the greatest champion. Our hero and Divine Master. His Divine Grace. He then directs us to Supersoul. Chaitya guru.
"The Lord Himself as Paramatma, or the spiritual master sitting within one's heart, gives the devotee exact direction by which he can gradually go back to Godhead." KB 2.32
Jaya! Jaya! Jaya!
