It is only common sense... The teacher must be there.
That is the actual process. There is benefit to whatever degree
someone can follow. But the process means the spiritual master
incarnation. I will try to find the section where this is discussed.
But really it is only common sense.
For example the arca vigraha is there because
we are so dull we cannot perceive the spiritual energy,
so Krishna manifests as the deity so we can serve
and perceive through our dull material senses.
If He has to do that, appear in wood or stone or a painting etc
then it is only common sense that the spiritual master
will have to be physically present also.
Of course once the relationship is established with the spiritual master
it is not broken and the disciple then enters a mood of separation
when the guru disappears.
