GANDHARI "LOOKED" AT KUNTI

"Gandhari felt intensely grieved when she noticed that Bhima uttered words, which pained Dhritarashtra. She was, however, a noble and enlightened soul. Whenever she felt pained at what Bhima said, she would look at Kunti and find peace. For Kunti was a veritable embodiment of dharma and inspired forbearance." Mahabharata (Retold By C. Rajagopalachari) Ch.102
This is a great sentence. Here it is said Gandhari would "look" at Kunti..to gain strength.
How is Gandhari going to look at Kunti? Gandhari is always wearing the blindfold...ever since her marriage with Dhritarashtra. Does this mean she takes the blindfold off and literally looks at Kunti with her eyes? No, of course not.
It means within her mind's eye she pictured Kunti devi.
She perceived Kunti devi through her mind's eye.
She envisioned Kunti devi.
The question then arises when we hear... the pure devotee can see Krishna eye to eye. But Krishna cannot be seen with the material eyes. Even looking at the arca vigraha it is possible someone may not actually see Krishna, they will see only wood or stone...
So what is this seeing? Is it imagination?
Was Gandhari simply imagining Kunti devi? No Kunti devi is there....standing before her... but Gandhari cannot use her material eyes to perceive Kunti.
She uses her mind's eye.
When Krishna says to Arjuna in the Gita, "My dear Arjuna, only by undivided devotional service can I be understood as I am, standing before you, and can thus be seen directly. Only in this way can you enter into the mysteries of My understanding." BG 11.54
Is it imagination? No... Krishna is there.
But like Gandhari who cannot use her material eyes to see Kunti
we also cannot use our material eyes to see Krishna
but we can perceive Krishna through pure devotional Krishna.
