Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati discusses seminal lines and disciplic lines in terms of both Brahmanas (in the main body of the text) and Vaishnava Acaryas (in the Appendixes to His essay) "Brahmana and Vaishnava."
Interestingly the centuries old feud in the Muslim community is based on this very distinction. Seminal succession or disciplic succession. The Shiites and Sunnis respectively. Each claiming only their path is the correct one.
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati makes the point that in Vaishnava culture both paths are bonafide. However, it is the personal qualities of the individual that has the final say. Simply taking birth in an acharya's family or simply receiving initiation from an acarya is not carte blanche.
